This past Sunday, more than 50 employees from Advanced Remarketing Services and Comsearch, along with their “four-legged children” participated as the CARS FOR A CURE team in the American Cancer Society’s 2015 BARK FOR LIFE in Warwick, Rhode Island. This was a new type of ACS Relay for Life event held to celebrate our pups who offer tireless companionship to cancer patients, and to honor and memorialize all those touched by cancer … human or canine.
The Rhode Island inaugural event was held over a period of 4 hours versus the traditional 24 hours for which ACS Relay for Life events are typically noted. For our team, it was the culmination of 3 months of recruiting, planning, and fund raising to help the fight against cancer. We successfully raised just short of $2,000 for the event which will help support cancer research and a variety of resources available to cancer patients and their families. It was a bonus that we were able to show off our furriest loves and marvel at canine cuteness that was simply off the charts!
Smiles from happy dogs and proud humans were abound as Sunday’s participants displayed their best in doggie costume contests and a dog-owner look-a-like contest, contributed to the quilt of hope, notched the energy up with a doggie 50/50 raffle where dogs fetched numbered tennis balls from a field of balls, marveled at the spectacle of dog demonstrations, relaxed with dog and human Reiki, participated in raffles, visit onsite vendors, experts, food trucks, and jammed out to live music. Cancer survivors present at the event were honorably recognized and led the group walk through some of the prettiest parts of the park.
“The American Cancer Society is one of our most valuable charity partners, so participating in their fund raising event was a natural fit for our organization,” said ARS General Manager Kelly Furtado. “Pets are such an important part of people’s lives for the joy, companionship and unconditional love they provide. I hear so much about our employees’ dogs, the event was a great way to finally meet them all while helping to raise money for the fight against cancer. I’m proud that more than 50 of our co-workers stepped up to be part of this event.”
